CAMO ON!!
Field camp is officially over! Im so happy. But actualli field camp was not dat bad la. Other than some unpleasant experience like slpping with Singh as a buddy and digging shell scrap. It was kind of fun.
One week before the start of field camp, I didn’t know what to expect. I heard from friends that it would be hard and tiring. I spent the days before field camp packing my field camp packs and wondering what it would be like sleeping in the forest without bathing and changing uniform. But I keep my hopes up by thinking that its only 6 days and that it will soon be over.
On the first day of field camp, we had an 8 km route march. I was too confident by thinking that it would be easy, but the fact is that it has been awhile since we did our last route march and the 8 km march on Saturday was quite a problem for me. I had blisters on my small toe and had to go through the 6 days of field camp with a piece of my skin coming out from my toe.
After the route march, we had about 15 minutes to build our basha which was reasonably hard when your wet, sticky, tired an had to work with and impatient and temperamental buddy. After our basha was up, we had to go down to have our first fire movement lesson. I enjoyed learning about fire movement and was quite an experience for me. The first night was terrible as my buddy was not cooperative. He keeps on shouting at me for every little mistake that I did and I nearly lose my temper that night. The rain did not make things easier that night too.
Morning came and we had to run about 1.6 km with our long #4 and rifle. It was quite tiring but manageable. After breakfast, we continued with fire movement lessons and practicing it. Our commanders we there to help us correct any mistakes that we made. The night was just as bad as the previous one. But I manage to tolerate with it better.
On the third day, we did our 5BX in the morning and practice more fire movements drills before having GAC in the evening. It was quite well done in my point of view although we didn’t do the artillery drill properly as we did not have much practice on it
On the forth day, we made our way to the oil plum plantation. As soon as we reach there, we had to hurry with our lunch and quickly dig our shell scrap before night befalls. Digging the shell scrap was the most strenuous activity I ever did in my entire life. Digging a hole with my vest and rife in long #4 have only given me an abrasion, heat rash and a sense of achievement to completing it like others before me. The night was spent sleeping in our holes with ants and other insects crawling beside us. The rain that fell in the wee mornings didn’t help the situation either.
I enjoyed the fifth day the most as we learnt about urban warfare. It was fun firing our m16 in enclose areas, practicing our movement drills, clearing doors, windows and corners. We spent the whole day doing urban warfare and when night falls we carried on with our night walk. Our section commanders took us into the forest and bash through a distance of about 100m. The experience teaches me to trust my superiors and to have the confidence to walk through the forest even if visibility was low and there were many obstacles in front of us. The night was spent in a small building where I get to know more about my section mates before we all fell asleep.
The last day was spent doing soldier challenge which to me was kind of useless as we had to wait for about 2 hour and walk a distance of about 2 km to complete just 2 fire movement drills. After the activity, we had to go through the famous BIC. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me to leopard crawl and back crawl with a machine gun firing above my head. Although it was tiring, I still enjoyed the activity.
Overall, the field camp has made me better physically and mentally. It teaches me to have a higher tolerance level and to be able to adapt during the harshest condition. Be it with the environment or even the people around me. It also allows to bond better with some of my platoon mates and shown me the true colours of others. It was and experience that one will never forget and will change his perception towards life and how he live it. Furthermore, it has helped me to lose some weight.
The first thigh I did when I reach camp was to strip to my undies and bath. It was super relieving to have water and soap splash onto ur super dirty and sticky body. I was each part of my body with a ahndfull of soap each time. Haha. As soon as I was dress, I switch on my hp to call Syazaa. But my hp was giving problems and I end up onli msg her. Its shitty man. I really ms her. The harsh conditions makes u ms ur love ones more than ever. So when night came and I finally get to hear her voice, it was like a potion to cure an evil curse that was sent to me man. Haha.
I had gernade throwing lesson the next day. It was cool. Once in a lifetime exprience. To feel the shockwave of the gernade that u just throw out of ur hand is like nothing else in the world. Haha. We went home that night and Syazaa pcik me up. I was like hald an hr late and glad that she was not dat pissed.
I was shock to know that my dad was in hospital when I reach home. His old sickness is back to haunt him again as now he has a liver infection which coz him to get a fever with temperature as high as 42 deg at one point (fatal). But lucki;y his ok now as its been like a wk since hes been in the ward and I cant believe my mom didnt tell me about it. Huh.
We watch spidy tpday. IT was not bad la. But not as gd as I expected. As usual, marvel and hollywood chooses the worst actors to act as heroes and villians in the movies. We had fun gg window shooping and fooling ard today. Just wish it cld last longer. Wwll, net wk den. Hmm. I gtg now. Been typing for 2 hrs adn my ingers are tired. Haha. TC
Love you b.
